Samuel Garcia-Fuentes

Samuel Garcia-Fuentes was born on March 1, 2011, in the bustling city of Toronto, Canada. The youngest of four siblings, Samuel grew up in a household with two sisters and a brother. His parents, Sam Garcia, who was born in Guatemala, and Xiomara Fuentes, who was born in El Salvador, instilled in him a deep pride in his roots. Samuel’s heritage remains a cornerstone of his identity.

From a young age, Samuel showed an immense passion for baseball. His journey started in 2017 when he played T-ball with the Vaughan Vikings. That’s when he knew baseball was his true calling.

Chasing the Major League Dream

Samuel’s ultimate goal is to play professional baseball in the MLB one day. His favourite player, Juan Soto, inspires him daily on his journey. He knows that the path to the Major Leagues is not easy, but he’s determined and willing to put in the hard work and sacrifices needed to make it a reality.

The Pandemic Pause and Triumphant Return

Like many young athletes, Samuel faced an unexpected challenge when the COVID-19 pandemic kept him off the baseball diamond for three years. However, he didn’t let the setback discourage him. When he returned in 2023, he joined the Brampton Padres’ house league, where his talent quickly caught the attention of higher-level coaches. By September of that year, Samuel was trying out for the Brampton Royals teams. He bypassed the Single-A level entirely, earning a spot on the Brampton Royals AA team.

A Season of Growth and Recognition

The 2024 season marked a turning point in Samuel’s budding baseball career. His commitment to improving his skills was a sight to behold. Whether it was solo practice sessions, batting cages, or team training, Samuel ensured that he put in at least an hour of practice every day.

His efforts paid off. Samuel was awarded the Silver Slugger Award at the end of the season recognizing his impressive base hits and multiple home runs. He also participated in the Mississauga Tigers High Performance Camp, earning a spot on their 14U HPP Tigers 2025 team.

A fall tournament victory later that year brought Samuel his first championship ring, an experience he described as “indescribable.”

The 2025 season was marked by resilience for Samuel. Despite an early injury in May that kept him off the field for six weeks, he demonstrated strong leadership, showing up every game to support his teammates. Upon returning, he proved himself to be a strong outfielder and battled through a shoulder injury at the plate. His perseverance helped lead the team to become COBA Champions, and he's now looking forward to a big year in 2026. He is preparing for the upcoming season with spring training in Boca Raton, Florida with his High Performance Team.

With excitement, he looks forward to a promising 2026 season!

His admirable sportsmanship and dedication was not overseen and h e was named 680 NEWS' Athlete o f the Week for a second time.

Hard Work and Community Impact

Samuel’s journey is about more than just baseball. During his trip to the Dominican Republic in November 2024, he was inspired and developed a desire to give back. Witnessing young athletes train with limited resources motivated him to find ways to support their dreams. Samuel hopes to provide gear and other resources to help aspiring players pursue their passion.

Determined to give back, in 2025, Samuel selflessly donated his own three Blue Jays home opener game tickets-for his parents and himself to raffle for fundraising.

He also raffled two tickets donated by Mr. Mark Hyatt. While his initial goal was to support kids in the Dominican Republic, strict regulations for international charities forced him to reinvent his approach.

Samuel is now focused on using those funds to help kids locally, bringing that same passion to his community closer to home. Samuel has visions for 2026 to launch small fundraising camps for younger kids in his spare time, creating opportunities where he can pass on the knowledge and skills he's learned to give them an early advantage in the game.

Samuel feels being involved in sports is crucial and beneficial for kids and youth, as he himself, realizes that if you're involved in sports, there's potentially less chances to fall into any bad addictions.

Samuel will continue to keep in touch with Coach El Fisico Moises in the Dominican Republic, and is looking for ways to send gear out of pocket to support his work there.

Samuel looks for support from sponsors or individuals with his mentality to join him in this noble cause, if you are interested, please click on the sponsors tab in this website to connect directly!
